An insured moving company should be able to show you their COI so you can verify they have the necessary insurance coverage. A COI typically includes:
You can request a COI from your moving company via email or over the phone. The moving company will then contact their insurance provider to issue the COI. It’s important to ensure the COI contains accurate information, such as the name of the insured (the moving company), policy numbers, types of coverage, policy limits, and effective dates. Once issued, the moving company should send you a copy directly or provide it to the party requesting the certificate. Always verify the authenticity of the COI with the listed insurance company if there are any doubts about its validity.
COI stands for “certificate of insurance.” A COI is a document that proves an insured party has insurance coverage. In the case of moving companies, a COI certifies that the company has a valid insurance policy. This policy protects you as the customer in case of any unexpected events, such as damage to your belongings during the move.
An insurance policy outlines the terms and conditions of the insurance coverage, while a COI provides proof that the policy exists. Additionally, a certificate of insurance outlines specific details about your moving company’s coverage. Because of this, hiring COI movers ensures you are protected in case of any accidents or mishaps that may occur during the moving process.
